First Lady Michelle Obama's blog just got a significant upgrade.
Let's poke around and see what we might learn, and apply for your organization's blog/social media site:
- first impression is clean, not cluttered. Lots of white space.
- the first thing you see is the "official" photograph of First Lady Michelle Obama. I am certain that this is a highly requested item, and they save themselves a lot of questions, by simply making the photograph available on their site. What commonly requested items could you be putting on your blog?
- the second thing that my eye notices is the short story telling us the Michelle Obama story. Stories like these generally evoke an emotional response. When your patrons visit your site, can they see your heart?
- the third thing that catches my eyes are videos, and slide shows. With a blog, these are incredibly easy to install. Does your organization have stories that lend themselves to visual presentation? Short videos can be very powerful in telling your story.
WhiteHouse.gov is one of the most successful blog/social media sites in the world. We all do well, regardless of what we think of the politics, to come to this well, and drink deeply of its social media lessons.
Great job WhiteHouse.gov social media staff!
